How we guided Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall (BSH) through its S/4HANA migration – a look at our methodology and the key insights from a large-scale project.
The challenge for the data migration is, of course, the complete, consistent, and audit-compliant takeover of the existing portfolio with low implementation and execution effort. What made the technical implementation challenging here was not only the enormously large data volume, but also the performant transformation of the data into entirely new data and object structures and field values, as well as the integration of data cleansing functions for an iterative improvement of data quality to the level required for the target system and the target processes. Furthermore, the data takeover had to be carried out transparently and in an audit-compliant manner. In addition to ensuring the completeness of all future required entities and the correctness of all created data, increasing data quality to guarantee the highest possible degree of automation was an important requirement from the building society to the migration team. In addition, high-performance execution, reduction of system downtime, preparation of the reconciliation results in a traceable and audit-compliant form, as well as compliance with all of BSH’s compliance and audit requirements were of particular focus in the migration process.
The building society’s primary goal is to keep the impact of the migration activities on ongoing business operations as low as possible. The commitment of internal employees for conceptual work and data cleansing must be kept to a minimum. The fundamental design approach of the paricon Framework, to work with the entire production data set as quickly as possible and gain a rapid overview of the structure and quality of the data, is a key success factor and accelerator for the migration project. This allows transformation and data cleansing rules to be implemented early and the data quality of the migration content to be iteratively improved.
