With our Smart Data Protection solution, we are breaking entirely new ground and delivering a timely, innovative approach to protecting your SAP test systems. While previous solutions were limited to individual modules or required extensive effort to implement customer-specific data models, paricon's solution uses self-learning algorithms and robotic elements to autonomously detect sensitive information without any implementation effort – completely regardless of which SAP system or modules are in use. Elaborate, time-consuming workshops with all possible department employees and module managers to identify the tables and fields containing or potentially containing sensitive data are a thing of the past.

System copies of productive SAP systems are used in most cases as representative, production-like test systems. Two problems arise from this: On the one hand, people who would not have access to the productive system also have access to the test systems. On the other hand, these are often complex systems that have grown over many years with a multitude of custom enhancements – DZ BANK’s central SAP core system has been in productive use for approximately 25 years, serves as a platform for approx. 15 SAP modules, has approx. 2,000 custom tables and a database size of 70 terabytes – finding and encrypting all sensitive data in such a system was previously only possible with significant implementation effort.
The requirements set by DZ BANK for an efficiently usable solution were therefore:
- Deployable without effort for the bank’s employees and without implementation effort
- Encryption of complex systems within a reasonable time frame – despite very high data volumes in large systems
The solution is as simple as it is ingenious. In the first step, multiple scans are performed across the system, in which sensitive information such as personal or organizational data is identified through intelligent algorithms. With each scan, the analysis parameters are systematically modified and self-learning algorithms are also employed to achieve a perfect search result. The search robot does not stop at custom tables or unstructured data, e.g., long text fields. In this way, we have found sensitive information in areas of the database that DZ BANK employees would never have thought possible.
With our Smart Data Protection solution, we are breaking entirely new ground and delivering a timely, innovative approach to data protection for SAP test systems. The solution, developed jointly with DZ BANK, enables intelligent, functionally consistent encryption that neither restricts the system’s usability for testing purposes in any way, nor falls short of meeting all legal data protection requirements. The absolute innovation of the solution is its ability to autonomously determine the fields and information relevant for encryption from the data model of any SAP module or custom enhancement. This enables DZ BANK to use a single solution for all deployed SAP systems, completely without time investment from business departments and IT and without implementation effort.

With Smart Data Protection, paricon delivers for the first time a solution that works regardless of which systems, modules, or data models are involved – and also considers all custom enhancements. The anonymization works out-of-the-box at the push of a button. Extensive workshops for preparation or explanation of custom data models, etc. are completely eliminated. This makes it effortless to integrate into the provisioning processes for test systems.
