GDPR SAP TEST DATA – IMPLEMENTATION IN SAP SYSTEMS

With our Data Reduction Framework, a leading automotive bank has transformed historically grown SAP systems into GDPR-compliant operations. Our solution enabled efficient data localization and legally compliant archiving to meet the ever-growing data privacy requirements.

One of Germany's largest automotive banks deploys paricon's Data Reduction Framework for localizing deletion-relevant data and meeting EU GDPR requirements.

Similar to many SAP customers, the large automotive bank has been running a dispositive SAP system productively for over ten years. For the initial and recurring deletion of customer and business data, the bank uses our Data Reduction Framework, thereby meeting all EU GDPR requirements.

Archiving and deleting data in productive SAP systems is particularly critical, as data consistency must never be compromised.

The challenge in the initial data cleansing of the SAP system was, on the one hand, the large volume of data, and on the other hand, the high functional complexity of the underlying data model. With this automotive bank, we were dealing with a HANA-based SAP Bank Analyzer system that provides a unified, central data foundation for the key bank management disciplines. Starting from the consistent deletion of the relevant business partner data, the associated contract and transaction data also had to be deleted. The highest priority was maintaining data consistency and ensuring the uninterrupted operability of existing processing chains across the various banking calculation engines on the SAP Bank Analyzer platform, as well as the interaction with downstream reporting functions based on SAP BW.

Our iterative approach is perfectly supported by the interplay of two solutions: Smart Search and the Data Reduction Framework. Using Smart Search, we determine which tables and table fields contain data of the business objects to be deleted. This search considers both standard tables and custom enhancements. With Smart Search, we significantly accelerate the creation of deletion concepts. Before the actual deletion process, our Data Reduction Framework verifies whether the deletion can be carried out – both from a functional perspective, e.g., are there still ongoing business activities or functional dependencies, and from a technical perspective. Business objects not identified as deletable are placed in a processing cockpit for review and assigned to the appropriate department employee. All deletable data objects are first archived with high performance and then physically deleted from the system. A sophisticated indexing logic enables convenient searching and reloading of deleted data objects from the archive – naturally only when needed.

Through the use of Smart Search for rapid localization of deletion-relevant data in the system and the Data Reduction Framework for verification, archiving, and deletion, the bank was able to perform a cleansing of the SAP Bank Analyzer system with minimal implementation effort and time – thereby generating significant value for the future operation of the HANA platform:

  • Establishing EU GDPR-compliant operations through initial data deletion and implementation of ongoing deletion functions
  • Significant increase in data quality
  • Performance improvements through reduction of table sizes
  • Reduction of required storage space
YOUR EXPERT FOR THE DATA REDUCTION FRAMEWORK BY PARICON

The advantages are obvious: By deploying the Data Reduction Framework, we were able to achieve a significant cleansing of the SAP Bank Analyzer system within just a few weeks. Thanks to the flexible object selection capabilities and the high processing performance, we usefully complement SAP's standard archiving and cleansing tools, enabling the deletion of several million data records within a matter of hours. At one of Germany's largest automotive banks, we were able to deliver substantial value.
