WHY DZ BANK RELIES ON THE SMART DATA PROTECTION SOLUTION
With our “Smart Data Protection” solution, we are breaking completely new ground and delivering a timely, innovative approach to protecting your SAP test systems. While previous solutions were limited to individual modules or required a great deal of effort to implement the customer-specific data model, the paricon solution works with self-learning algorithms and robotic elements to automatically detect information worthy of protection without any implementation effort – regardless of the SAP system or which modules are used. Elaborate, time-consuming workshops with all kinds of department employees and module managers to record the tables and fields in which data worthy of protection is or could be stored are a thing of the past.
In most cases, system copies of productive SAP systems are used as representative, production-related test systems. There are two problems with this: On the one hand, people who would not have access to the productive system also have access to test systems. On the other hand, these are often complex systems that have evolved over many years with a large number of customer enhancements – DZ BANK’s central SAP core system has been in productive use foraround 25 years and serves as a platform for approx. 15 SAP modules, has approx. 2,000 customer tables and a database size of 70 terabytes – finding and encrypting all data worthy of protection in such a system was previously only possible with a great deal of implementation effort.
DZ BANK’s requirements for an efficiently usable solution were therefore:
- Can be used without effort for the bank’s employees and without implementation effort
- Encryption of complex systems in a reasonable time – despite sometimes very high data volumes in large systems
The solution is both simple and ingenious. In the first step, the system is scanned several times to identify sensitive information such as personal or organizational data using intelligent algorithms. The analysis parameters are specifically changed for each scan and self-learning algorithms are also used to achieve a perfect search result. The search robot does not stop at customer-specific tables or unstructured data, e.g. long text fields. In this way, we have also found information worthy of protection in areas of the database that DZ BANK employees would never have thought possible.
With our “Smart Data Protection” solution, we are breaking completely new ground and delivering a timely, innovative approach to data protection for SAP test systems. The solution developed together with DZ BANK enables intelligent, technically consistent encryption, which on the one hand does not restrict the usability of the system for test purposes in any way and on the other hand fulfills all legal requirements with regard to data protection. The absolute innovation of the solution is the ability to automatically determine the fields and information relevant for encryption from the data model of any SAP module or customer extension. This enables DZ BANK to use a single solution for all SAP systems in use, completely without time expenditure for specialist departments and IT and without implementation costs.
